About skyler

Skyler Herrick (she/her) is a New York City–based dancer, choreographer, performer, and educator working across contemporary and commercial forms. Born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she began her dance training at the age of five at Chatham Dance Connection. There, she explored a wide range of styles—including contemporary, ballet, jazz, musical theatre, and tap—developing a deep appreciation for the versatility of dance. Skyler grew up performing in musicals, competing in dance competitions, and serving as captain of her school’s dance team.

In 2023, Skyler earned her BFA in Contemporary Dance with a minor in Arts Entrepreneurship from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During her time at UNCSA, she performed in works by Ashley Lindsey, Abdur-Rahim Jackson, Gaspard Louis, José Limón, Merce Cunningham, Kira Blazek Ziaii, Juel D. Lane, and Mariana Oliveira.

Skyler was a 2025 Kenan Fellow at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where she choreographed and performed in the evening-length work Rear View Mirror with live, original music. Her recent performance credits include Lone Star Love: The Musical (Randy Skinner), The Umbrella Academy (John Heginbotham), Book of Stones (Christian Denice), Close to Home Concert (Forager Theatre Company), After Hours (Madi Hicks), and Sail Away (Treehouse Shakers). She is currently a teaching artist with the National Dance Institute and also works as a private instructor in ballet, contemporary, theatre jazz, and voice.

In addition to her dance and theatre work, Skyler has extensive experience as a vocalist. She has performed and recorded professionally for the Red Clay Ramblers, The Guthrie Theater, and broadcast television. Most recently, she performed as a vocalist with Chamber Dance Project in Christian Denice’s newest work.
